THE UPPER MUSTANG TIJI FESTIVAL. THE ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF MUSTANG.

 

Upper Mustang Tiji Festival is a great combination of trekking and cultural celebration at the same time on the dry land or desert of Nepal UPPER MUSTANG. This is an annual celebration in the forbidden Himalayan kingdom, popular as The city of wall Lo Manthang. Tiji is the abbreviated form of the Temba Chhiring; which translates to “prayer for world peace“.  Tiji festival commonly calls Tenji as well.

 

Tenji reflects the victory of Buddha’s incarnation Dorji Sonam over a demon call MA TAM RU TA. The Waxman eater and caused storms and droughts to destroy livestock and Houses. The dance performed by the monks at Chhyode Gumba during this festival provides enact the harassment of the MA TAM TU TA. The birth of  Dorji Sonam the son of Damon and attempt by Dorji Soam to return and then demon to the Buddha realm.

 

The dance called TSA CHHAM on the First day of the Tiji. And NGA CHHAM on the second day by the monks. On the third day, a monk has to stay in the seclusion of the three monks during preparing for the role of the Dorje Sonam. This ceremony called RHA CHHAM, this monk in the role of Dorje Sonam throws the effigy and Tsampa representation of MA TAM TU TA. This is the belief that all the village would purify of the evil and bad spirits of this time.

EIGHT DAY:= first day of Tiji Festival.

NINTH DAY:= second day of Tiji Festival Explore Lo-Manthang.

TENTH DAY:= Attend last day and closing ceremony of Tiji Festival.

ELEVENTH DAY:= Lo-Manthang to Dhakmar. Trek 5 to 6 Hours.

TWELVETH DAY:= Dhakmar to Syangbochen. Trek 5 to 6 Hours.

THIRTEEN DAY:= Syangbochen to Chhusang. Trek 6 to 7 Hours.

FOURTEEN DAY:= Chhusang to Jomsom. Trek 7 to 8 Hours

FIFTEEN DAY:= Fly back to Pokhara.

SIXTEEN DAY:= Drive back to Kathmandu.

SEVENTEEN DAY:= Fly back to Home.

FIFTEEN DAY:= Fly back to Pokhara.

SIXTEEN DAY:= Drive back to Kathmandu.

SEVENTEEN DAY:= Fly back to Home.
