The Best Alternative Destination of Poon Hill – Khopra Danda Trek

Khopra Danda Trek is the best short trek in the Annapurna Himalayas. This trek, also popular as Khopra Ridge Trek, this trip allows you to explore the off-beaten path and it is a great replacement for Poon Hill Trek (3210m).  Trekking through inside the Annapurna Conservation Area to have the majestic mountain views and the superb sunrise and sunset view.

This trek combines the best what other trekking trails offer inside the Annapurna including terraced farmland, typical local villages, sparkling mountain views, lush rhododendron forest, strong yaks along the way, and the best sunrise and sunset view.

This trek follows the same trail of Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek till Ghorepani with the sunrise view from Poon Hill (3210m). Then next days continue to Swanta, Upper Chistibung, Khopra Danda, and Tatopani (Hot water) – where the natural hot spring to clean your dirt is located.


From there, you travel up the Himalayas to get back to Pokhara the next day. Also, if you like, you can continue your journey with Jomsom Muktinath Trek,  Annapurna Base Camp Trek, or Upper Mustang Trek as well.

Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu.

Detail Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu

You will be picked up by our airport representative and drive to Hotel. After check-in at the hotel, one of our team members will brief you about the trek. If you need to do shopping, you can do that as well.

Day 2: Drive to Pokhara Or Flight.

Early morning you will have breakfast in the Hotel and then walk to the Bus station. The bus will leave at 7 am in the morning to Pokhara and reach Pokhara at around 2 or 3 o’clock. If you want to take a flight, you will drive to the airport as per the flight schedule.

Day 3: Drive to Nayapul and Trek to Ghandruk.

After breakfast in the hotel, the team will drive to Nayapul. Nayapul is the starting point of the ABC, Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. From here your trek will start to Ghandruk. You will walk around 4 to 5 hours. The amazing view from Ghandruk including Mt. Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South and other peaks are speechless.

Day 4: Trek to Tadapani.

Similar to other trekking trails, our trip to Tadapani will start after breakfast. We will be climbing up to the upper part of Ghandruk and from there you will be in the rain forest to reach in Bhaishi Kharka and then Tadapani. Again, the view from Tadapani is amazing. You will walk around 4 to 5 hours to reach there.

Day 5: Trek to Bayeli Kharka.

The trail to Bayeli Kharka starts flat inside the rain forest. Along the way to Dobato, we will have lunch and then continue to walk to Bayeli Kharka. We will walk for around 5 to 6 hours.

Day 6: Trek to Khopra Danda.

Similar to other days, our walking time will start after breakfast to get to Khopra Danda. We will walk for around 4 to 5 hours.

Day 7: Rest day and hike to Baraha Lake.

This is quite a longest day and the highest point to reach to enjoy the amazing view of lake and mountains and then we will get back to Khopra Danda. Have to walk for around 7 to 8 hours.

Day 8: Trek to Swanta.

After breakfast, you will head down to Swanta. You will walk for around 5 to 6 hours.

Day 9: Trek to Ghorepani.

Ghorepani is one of the most popular trekking trails in Nepal. So today all the team will head to Ghorepani.

Day 12: Trek to Tikhedhunga.

The team will wake up early in the morning and set out for a hike to Poon Hill for sunrise view and then descend to Tikhedhunga. We will walk for around 6 to 7 hours.

Day 13: Trek to Nayapul and drive to Pokhara.

After breakfast, you will drive to Pokhara and say goodbye to porters and other team members.

Day 14: Drive to Kathmandu.

After breakfast, we will walk to the Bus stop and drive to Kathmandu.

3 Night Hotel Accommodation in Kathmandu.

We advise getting travel insurance to all travelers who are interested in trekking in Nepal. Trekking in Nepal is walking on the trail (path) of mountains. In mountain areas, health treatment facilities are not standard. There is less availability of good hospitals and doctors. So if in case the trekker suffers from severe sickness, he needs to be brought back to Kathmandu by helicopter for better treatment. And the helicopter charter fare is expensive in Nepal. If you already have travel insurance, your expenditure during these times will lessen.

When selecting a travel insurance policy we require that at a minimum you are covered for medical expenses including emergency repatriation. We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. We JRN Treks shall have no liability for loss, theft of or damage to baggage or personal effects.

We would also like to let you know that Nepalese Insurance Company does not have travel insurance policy for foreign nationals. They have this policy only for Nepalese citizens. So we advise you to get your travel insurance with Insurance Company in your own place.
